SIBA

A unified voice for independent Somali broadcasting.

The Somali Independent Broadcasters Association was formed on 1 November 2025 to represent the interests and advancement of independent television stations across Somaliland, Somalia and the wider Somali-speaking world.

Overview

Built by broadcasters, for broadcasters.

SIBA brings together the owners and operators of independent television stations under one membership body. Our founding objective is to represent the collective interest of these stations — and to advance their professional, technical and editorial development.

Our scope is regional. We work throughout Somali-speaking regions — from Hargeisa to Mogadishu, Garowe to Nairobi — and partner with international bodies to bring global best practice home.

Mission

A televised public forum for the issues that matter.

SIBA's mission is to provide a televised public discussion forum on the major issues facing our societies — freedom of speech and freedom of the press, citizen participation in democracy, the rule of law, human rights, good governance and accountability, peace and dialogue.

Scope

Every Somali-speaking community.

Our membership spans television stations in Somaliland, the Federal Member States of Somalia, and diaspora communities in East Africa, the Gulf, Europe and North America. We are the first association to represent independent Somali broadcasting at a continental and international level.
